Who we are

Founded by Roger Gherson in 1988, Gherson Solicitors LLP was first established as a boutique immigration law firm based in London but quickly expanded to specialise also in political asylum and extradition.

Today we are a team of more than 50 multilingual professionals focusing on UK Immigration, International Protection (asylum and extradition), Commercial Litigation & Arbitration, White-Collar Crime and Sanctions.

We are headquartered in London but operate on the global stage. We have an office in Brussels and long-standing relationships with expert counsel around the world. We often act as lead strategic advisors to our clients on their most important matters, assembling teams of hand-picked specialists to achieve the best possible outcomes.

We act for a broad range of clients, both individual and corporate, many of whom seek our advice on the most difficult problems they have ever faced in their personal or professional lives. Over the years, the firm has developed a particular expertise in complex (and often contentious) ‘protection’ cases – concerned with the protection of an individual’s life, physical integrity, liberty, assets and reputation, often spanning multiple legal forums in different jurisdictions.

Gherson LLP was instructed in the first Special Immigration Appeals Commission case, the first Unexplained Wealth Order case and some of the first cases arising from the UK’s imposition of sanctions on Russian nationals in 2022. Our sanctions work includes delisting applications, challenges against the OFSI licensing system, criminal investigations linked to alleged sanctions breaches and investment treaty arbitrations.

Consistent throughout Gherson LLP’s history has been a commitment to upholding the rule of law and challenging the unlawful exercise of power by states against the individual. Our team coordinates actions against states and state actors in the UK, France, Austria, Germany, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Spain, Monaco, Switzerland, Italy, Latvia, as well as many others.
