Morocco to host 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly – what does this mean for collaborations and actions in Africa?
Last year, we highlighted an amusing coincidence: in November 2024, Glasgow hosted both the New York band Interpol and the international criminal police organisation INTERPOL at the same time.
This was because the 92nd session of the INTERPOL General Assembly took place from 4 – 7 November 2024 in Glasgow. This year, Morocco will be hosting the 93rd INTERPOL General Assembly in November 2025, and in this blog we examine what is on the agenda.
At last year’s conference, UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer’s speech focused on working together to tackle the global threat of serious organised crime. Delegates also discussed recent operations, including the infiltration and seizure of the online platform used by LockBit – the world’s most harmful cybercrime network.
The 2025 Assembly theme is “Connecting the World for a Safer Future”, with a focus on such issues as the rise of cybercrime, combating terrorism and organised crime.
Morocco, an INTERPOL member since 1957, is proud to be hosting this event, stating:
“Morocco is honoured to host this pivotal meeting of the world’s police” and “It is a testament to our commitment to global security and provides an unparalleled opportunity to strengthen partnerships that protect citizens not just in Morocco, but across the globe”.
At the 2024 meeting, Morocco was elected Vice-President for Africa by a majority vote, signalling a renewed commitment to law enforcement collaboration across Africa.
Recently, we discussed an INTERPOL cybercrime operation in Africa targeting scams involving crypto, as well as a recent meeting focused on tackling organised crime across Africa.
We also recently discussed Operation Serengeti, which resulted in thousands of arrests and the dismantling of over 134,000 scam operations.
Those who suspect that they may be subject to INTERPOL measures, including a Red (or Blue) Notice and diffusion, should take heed.
