“Some U.K. tax advisers suggest Britain might attract the wealthy Americans seeking to escape California’s “billionaire tax” and any subsequent wealth levy, but U.S. tax advisers are more circumspect about the prospect.
According to Roger Gherson of U.K. firm Gherson Solicitors LLP, “The announcement of a ‘billionaire tax’ set to come into force in California could provide a much-needed lifeline to [Chancellor of the Exchequer] Rachel Reeves and the Treasury to attract wealthy Californians to the UK.”
