Meeting the financial requirement is one of the most important, and sometimes challenging, requirements to prove to the Home Office.
Generally, the applicant and their British/settled spouse can meet the financial requirement in one of the following ways: either by providing the Home Office with evidence of annual UK income to the amount of at least £18,600 pre-tax, or cash savings to the amount of £62,500.00.
Should you and/or your British/settled partner have a child who is not a British citizen, the necessary financial threshold will increase.
Where the financial requirement is being met via cash savings, the savings must have been maintained for at least 6 continuous months prior to application submission. However, where cash savings have been maintained for less than 6 months, it may still be possible to apply without waiting. This will depend on the source of the savings, for example, sale of a property or liquidation of investments, and the evidence that you have available to demonstrate this source.
Given the complexities of the financial requirement, you should seek specific advice on the facts of your case.
