How can I accompany my child to study in the UK?

In order to qualify for a Parent of a Child Student visa, an applicant must demonstrate that:

• They are aged 18 or over on the date of application;
• They are the parent of a child who has, or is at the same time applying for, status as a Child Student;
• The child’s other parent must not be in the UK or seeking to come to the UK;
• The child is aged between 4 and 11 years on the date of application;
• They intend to live with the child during the applicant’s stay in the UK;
• They do not intend to make the UK their main home and have sufficient funds to maintain their main home outside the UK; and
• They have additional, sufficient funds available for maintaining themselves in the UK.

An initial Parent of a Child Student application is usually required to be made from outside of the UK. An application can, however, be made from within the UK if an individual is lawfully present in the UK with leave other than as a Visitor, Short-term Student or outside of the Immigration Rules.

If successful, a Parent of a Child Student visa will be granted for a period which ends at the same time as the child’s Child Student visa, or on the date the child reaches the age of 12 years, whichever is sooner.
