Michelina has been a member of the International Protection team since September 2021.
Within this team, she is developing an expertise in complex Asylum, Extradition, Sanctions, Human Rights, Immigration, INTERPOL and White-Collar Crime matters.
Michelina has assisted in managing politically sensitive and complex protection cases that are often multi-faceted in that they engage INTERPOL requests and potential extradition proceedings, as well as criminal and/or civil litigation. She has worked on appeals to the Immigration Tribunals and public law challenges, primarily against decisions by the Home Office. She further assists with designation challenges (in respect of both immigration sanctions and financial sanctions), UK sanctions compliance advice and sanctions enforcement.
Presently, Michelina is assisting on a politically sensitive extradition case out of a foreign jurisdiction, where a team of lawyers from several jurisdictions are instructed, involving arguments which engage several provisions under the European Convention on Human Rights (“ECHR”).
Michelina has become the point of contact in cases she is currently involved in and continues to develop and expand her skills in this team. Having lived and studied in North America, Europe, Russia and China, she brings a unique perspective and valuable insights to the team. Prior to joining the international protection team, she gained invaluable experience training in the UK inbound immigration team.
