Divya was called to the Bar of England and Wales in 2024, having also qualified as a lawyer in India in 2019. Before crossing over to the English Bar, she spent three years practising in India at a boutique disputes firm and, subsequently, at one of India’s largest full-service law firms, where she built a broad and varied practice spanning commercial litigation, arbitration (both institutional and ad hoc) and mediation, advising and representing clients from a range of jurisdictions across sectors including energy, infrastructure, insurance, technology and financial services.
Divya studied law at a top law school in India, where she graduated in the top 1% of her cohort, before going on to read for a Bachelor of Civil Law degree at Oxford University as a Gabriel Moss QC BCL Scholar, specialising in commercial law. She subsequently completed the Bar Vocational Studies at City Law School, University of London, during which she held further scholarships from Gray’s Inn, including the Michael Mustill Scholarship.
Since moving to England, Divya has served as a Judicial Assistant in the King’s Bench Division of the High Court (Commercial Court and Technology and Construction Court), and has spent time at specialist public international law and arbitration practices, where her work has included investor-State arbitration concerning alleged breaches of the Fair and Equitable Treatment standard, representing a State before the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and a contractual dispute concerning an infrastructure project, governed by the law of a Middle Eastern jurisdiction, in which a contractor brought claims against the State.
Outside of practice, Divya writes extensively and has published on topics ranging from arbitral public policy to comparative contract law.
