What does it mean when UKVI says your application is not straightforward?

UK Immigration

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) often uses the term “not straightforward” to describe certain visa applications. So, what does it mean when UKVI says your application is not straightforward?

Essentially, it means that your application requires additional scrutiny and consideration by UKVI. This can be due to a variety of factors, including but not limited to:

  • If your supporting documents need to be verified
  • If you need to attend an interview
  • Because of your personal circumstances (for example, if you have a criminal conviction or a history of immigration violations).

If your application is deemed not straightforward, this does not necessarily mean that it will be rejected. However, it does mean that you should expect longer processing times than published, and be prepared to provide additional documentation or attend an interview to clarify any questions or concerns UKVI may have about your application.

You can reduce the chances of falling into this category by providing clear and comprehensive documentation and addressing any concerns that UKVI may have.
