Planning to attend UK tech events in autumn 2025? Learn about visa options, immigration rules and practical tips for international professionals and entrepreneurs.
The UK is Europe’s leading tech hub – with a combined market value of USD 1.2 trillion. The rapid growth of the fintech, artificial intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity sectors has attracted major venture capital investment, reaching over USD 7 billion, distributed across more than 17,000 UK-based startups. This vibrant environment has generated significant interest among experienced professionals, as well as emerging talent, who come to the UK from all over the world to attend a variety of highly popular conferences, summits and networking events.
Many exciting UK-based tech events are scheduled to take place in autumn 2025, such as the 3rd Annual PropTech show, which will be held in London between 1-2 October, the London Fintech Summit (scheduled for 6-7 October) and the Cyber Security Expo, will take place on 4 September and 23 October in Cheltenham and London, respectively.
For tech founders, professionals and entrepreneurs based outside of the UK, an appropriate permit should be secured in order to enter the UK and attend these events. If you are a ‘visa national’, you may apply for a Business Visitor visa. This visa allows individuals to take part in certain business activities, such as meetings, conferences and seminars, as well as to promote their business at tradeshows. The list of visa nationals can be found here.
‘Non-visa nationals’ can seek entry to the UK via the Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) route. For detailed information about the ETA please read our blog here.
UK Visitor visas can be issued for 6 months (visa fee of £127), 2 years (£475), 5 years (£848) or 10 years (£1,059), but each visit to the UK is limited to a maximum of 6 months regardless of the length of the visa.
A Visitor visa application process comprises an online application followed by a biometric appointment, where applicants will have to attend a visa application centre to have their photograph and fingerprints taken (find your nearest centre here).
As part of the online application, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:
One of the key objectives of the application is to satisfy the Home Office that you will not remain in the UK in breach of your visa conditions. We are well versed in advising on the best documents and evidence that should be submitted in support of your application.
Once the application and supporting documentation have been submitted, a decision can be expected within three weeks.
Individuals can apply for a Business Visitor visa up to three months before their intended date of travel to the UK. We recommend that applications are made as early as possible, as the Home Office can request further evidence, resulting in longer processing times. For those who need a faster decision, the UK Priority Service may be available for Business Visitor visa applicants. This service, subject to eligibility and availability, allows applicants to receive a decision within five working days, while the Super Priority Service can provide a decision by the next working day. Using these expedited options can help avoid delays, particularly for applicants with urgent travel plans.
We recommend providing as much supporting evidence as possible for your application. Invitation letters from the event you are planning to attend, letters from your employer and proof of strong family and financial links to your home country – all of these will help the Home Office establish whether you are a genuine visitor and will reduce the likelihood of them requesting further evidence or refusing your application.
It is imperative that once you have entered the UK on a Business Visitor visa, you do not breach the conditions of your leave. On a Business Visitor visa, you are allowed to engage in certain business activities, but you may not be renumerated for your participation in them (e.g. if you are invited as a speaker at an event or to take part in a tradeshow). Receiving remuneration for certain narrowly defined engagements is permitted if you hold a Permitted Paid Engagement visa.
Applicants must also ensure that their stay in the UK does not exceed 6 months in any one visit, as this can lead to the cancellation of their visa and create difficulties for any applications they may submit in the future.
