The UK-India Young Professionals Scheme (YPS) 2025 ballot is set to open this week, offering an exciting opportunity for young India nationals to live, work and study in the UK for up to two years. However, to be considered for a visa under this scheme, applicants must first be successful in the ballot.

Key details of the YPS 2025 ballot

There are 3,000 places available under the India Young Professionals Scheme visa in 2025. The majority of these will be allocated in the February ballot, with the remaining spots being distributed in a second and final ballot in July.

India nationals aged between 18 and 30 who meet the eligibility criteria must enter the ballot on the official UK government website. The ballot opens at 2:30pm India Standard Time on 18 February 2025 and closes at 2:30pm India Standard Time on 20 February 2025.

It is free to enter the ballot, and applicants will be selected at random. Those who are successful will be notified via email within two weeks of the ballot closing.

What is the UK-India Young Professionals Scheme?

Launched in February 2023, the UK-India Young Professionals Scheme is a visa programme designed to strengthen cultural and professional ties between the two nations. It allows young professionals from India to experience life in the UK for up to two years.

How can I enter the ballot?

The ballot entry process is straightforward and requires the following details:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Passport details (including a scanned copy or photo of the passport)
  • Phone number
  • Email address

Each applicant is allowed only one entry per ballot. Any duplicate entries will not be considered.

What should I do next once I’m selected in the ballot?

If selected in the ballot, applicants will receive an email notification confirming this. They will then have 90 days to submit their visa application to the UK Home Office, complete the biometric process and pay all required fees, including the visa application fee and the Immigration Health Surcharge.

What if I’m not successful in the ballot?

The results of the ballot are final. You cannot appeal if you’re unsuccessful. You can enter future ballots if you’re unsuccessful, as long as you still meet the eligibility criteria. If you are keen to move to the UK for study or work, you may also consider alternative visa options, such as a Student visa if you wish to pursue further education or a Skilled Worker visa if you are looking for employment opportunities in the UK. Exploring these routes could provide other viable pathways to gaining experience and exposure in the UK.

Conclusion

The UK-India Young Professionals Scheme is a fantastic chance for young professionals from India to gain international experience in the UK. If you meet the eligibility criteria and are keen to explore new opportunities, be sure to enter the February 2025 ballot before it closes on 20 February 2025.
