How do I obtain a UK visitor visa in Dubai?

UK Immigration

A UK visit visa is multifaceted and covers short trips for a variety of purposes, including tourism and business, both of which will be the focus of this blog. As a first step, your nationality will determine whether you need to obtain a UK visit visa before your intended travel.

Our previous blog titled ‘Top Tips for a UK Visit Visa’ can help you determine whether or not you need a visit visa to begin with. The application process for a UK visit visa generally involves filling out an online application form, submitting supporting evidence and attending a visa appointment. You can make a visa application up to 3 months before your intended date of travel.

Should you need to apply for a visit visa to travel to the UK, the process is very similar regardless of where you are applying from.

  1. Application Form

The application process involves submitting an online application form to UKVI. The form can be completed over an extended period of time, as you will be able to save it at any time and finish your application later by logging back in. However, you should ensure that you have made a note of the link and the password, so that you can access your saved application form when required. The form is arguably the most important part of the application, and we recommend completing it slowly and accurately.

  • Supporting evidence

You should not rely on the documents list that is automatically generated by the online application form, as it will not be specific to your circumstances. There are various factors the Home Office will consider when looking at a UK visit visa application. Generally, the focus will be on your genuine intention of being a visitor and returning to your home country at the end of your visit, and the activities you intend to undertake during your visit. You will be expected to provide evidence of your ties to your home country or country of residence (i.e. financial and familial) and evidence of your ability to cover the costs.

Please note that these factors are not exclusive, and there are additional requirements you will need to meet.

  • Scheduling your Appointment

Once your application has been submitted, it is important to note that the processing of the application will not begin until you have enrolled your biometrics at the UK Visa Application Centre. You can book your appointment with VFS Global (a third party service provider) via the following link – https://visa.vfsglobal.com/are/en/gbr/attend-centre/dubai

You must take the following with you to the appointment:

  • The appointment confirmation
  • Your original, valid passport (and your residence permit in the UAE)
  • A printout of your document checklist (generated by the online application form)
  • All of your supporting documents (unless you are able to upload these electronically to the platform).

Your will normally receive a decision on your application within 3 weeks from the date you attend the centre, unless you select a priority processing service, in which case your application will be processed within 5 to 7 working days of the date of the appointment.

  • Decision on your application

Should your application be successful, your passport will be returned with a visa vignette sticker endorsement. The vignette will state the dates of validity of your visa and the type of visit visa you have been granted. When you travel to the UK, you must have your date of entry stamped on the sticker as evidence of your entry as a UK visitor. If you notice an error on your vignette, you must contact the Visa Application Centre immediately and arrange for this to be amended before you travel.

Should your application be refused, you will receive a decision letter explaining the reasons for the decision; and the letter should also confirm your right to appeal the decision.
