Fast-track sponsor licences: how the UK Pre-Licence Priority Service works

Corporate Immigration

The UK’s Pre-Licence Priority Service was updated on 29 October 2025, allowing employers to fast-track sponsor licence applications and accelerate overseas recruitment. In this blog, we explain how the updated service works, who can apply and how it helps businesses reduce processing delays and meet urgent hiring needs.

What is the UK’s Pre-Licence Priority Service/fast-track sponsor licence, and how does it work?

The priority service is an optional, paid service that allows organisations to have their sponsor licence application (for hiring overseas workers) processed faster. For a fee of £750, the standard 8-week processing time can be reduced to ten working days – significantly reducing recruitment timelines for sponsors.

It is worth noting, however, that the priority service is subject to availability and eligibility, meaning that applicants will not always be presented with an option to request this service. This includes instances where the Home Office has already reached its daily limit of requests for priority service.

Who is eligible to apply?

The priority service can be requested at the time of submission of the sponsor licence application, and the fee is paid together with the main application fee.

The Pre-Licence Priority Service is available to sponsors looking to sponsor individuals on the following visas:

  • Skilled Worker visa
  • Senior or Specialist Worker visa under the Global Business Mobility route
  • Graduate Trainee visa under the Global Business Mobility route
  • Minister of Religion visa
  • Religious Worker visa
  • International Sportsperson visa
  • Creative Worker visa
  • Charity Worker visa

To be eligible for this service, sponsors must have completed the following actions:

  • Applied for a sponsor licence;
  • Paid the application fee and the priority service fee;
  • Sent their submission sheet and all mandatory and supplementary documents.

These documents must be submitted within five days of payment of the priority fee.

The priority service can be added to already-submitted applications in cases where:

  • All documents have been submitted; and
  • The application is not currently in progress.

It is worth noting that licence applications for the below visa routes are not currently eligible for priority service:

  • GBM UK Expansion Worker
  • GBM Service Supplier
  • GBM Secondment Worker
  • Scale-up Worker
  • Government Authorised Exchange
  • International Agreement
  • Seasonal Worker

How will this service help businesses reduce processing delays and meet urgent hiring needs?

The Pre-Licence Priority Service helps businesses reduce processing delays by significantly shortening the wait time for a sponsor licence application. This can be a useful mechanism for employers to meet their urgent hiring needs and capitalise on overseas talent.

This blog provides general guidance on the priority service offered to certain sponsor licence applications. Sponsors looking to utilise this service are advised to instruct legal representatives.
