UK Immigration
The CLC has provided the list to the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) for consideration. The MAC is an independent public body that advises the UK government on migration issues.
According to the CLC there is an acute shortage in areas such as bricklaying, carpentry, plant operatives and plasterers (amongst others) in the UK. Including these jobs in the shortage occupation list would mean lower visa fees for migrants in these roles, as well as the ability to meet the eligibility requirements for work visas more easily.
The CLC has also asked for Building Safety Managers to be included in the Skilled Worker route.
One of the more wide-reaching changes the CLC requested is that the UK’s Youth Mobility Scheme visa is extended to all EU and EEA countries to attract more young people to come to the UK for work.
