Can I work remotely in the UK on a visitor visa?

A question of particular interest for many in today’s world is whether one is allowed to remote work in the UK for their foreign employer whilst they are visiting the UK.

Visitors can respond to emails or answer calls in relation to their employment overseas. However, they must not be coming to the UK mainly to carry out remote work. The main purpose of their visit should be for a permitted activity rather than to carry out remote work.

This is in stark contrast to many Caribbean countries, which, following the pandemic, have begun to offer a special type of digital nomad visa.  The UK unfortunately does not have purpose-built visa route for digital nomads.
