Can I sponsor my family to join me in the UK?

Who can qualify for an Appendix FM visa?

• A spouse;
• A civil partner;
• An unmarried partner (relationship with a minimum of 2 years continuous cohabitation);
• A child under the age of 18; or
• A parent or other adult relative who requires daily care that cannot be obtained in their home country.

What status does the sponsor need to have?

The individual sponsoring the family member to join them in the UK must either be:

• A British citizen;
• Holding Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK; or
• Holding status under the EU Settlement Scheme.

What requirements need to be met?

• In brief, to qualify for an initial Appendix FM application, an individual must demonstrate that:
• They are a relevant family member of a British citizen/person present and settled in the UK;
• Their relationship with the British citizen/person present and settled in the UK is genuine and subsisting;
• The British citizen/person present and settled in the UK has sufficient financial resources to maintain and accommodate their family member in the UK;
• They, if aged between 18-65 years old, have basic proficiency in the English language; and
• They are of good character.

Can I obtain UK permanent residence?

Yes, for those who meet the necessary requirements, the Appendix FM route is one which can lead to UK permanent residence.
