Cong joined Gherson’s Litigation and Arbitration team in July 2023. Cong is a dual-qualified lawyer in England & Wales and Mainland China, with extensive experience in cross-border commercial disputes across both common law and civil law systems. Her practice covers commercial litigation, commercial arbitration and investment arbitration, with a focus on international trade and investment disputes, contractual disagreements and regulatory investigations. Cong holds a PhD in investment treaty arbitration, specialising in investor-state dispute settlement and international investment protection. She serves as an Arbitrator at the Shenzhen International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and a Mediator at CCPIT Shanghai International Commercial Mediation Centre. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb).

In addition to her core practice, Cong has extensive experience in public inquiries, competition law and anti-money laundering.

Notable Experience (public cases only, including those at previous firms)
  • Representing clients in numerous investment treaty arbitrations, including an investor from an Eastern European state against the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg in a dispute governed by UNCITRAL Rules.
  • Representing a sanctioned individual in an unquantified fraud case, currently estimated to be $250 million with subsidiary claims in fraud.
  • Representing a sanctioned individual in a £5 million possession dispute.
    Representing an overseas entity on a $10 million complex commodity dispute.
  • Representing a Chinese photovoltaic manufacturer before the CIETAC against an Indian counterparty and enforcing the arbitration award worth several million dollars in India.
  • Representing a US chemical products supplier in a CIETAC dispute against a Chinese customer.
  • Acting for several multinational supermarket chains from Europe, the US and Asia in a number of property and supply disputes.
  • Acting for several listed companies in internal investigations against (former) shareholders, controllers and senior officers.
