Global Talent applicants and COVID 19 Temporary Concession

Global Talent applicants seeking to conduct Coronavirus-related research in the UK will need to show that they will be based at a UK research organisation and that their research has funding in the form of a grant or fellowship from UK Research and Innovation (‘UKRI’).

Global Talent applicants and Temporary Concession: Coronavirus-Related Research

Under the temporary concession:

• The applicant’s employment contract or hosting agreement with the UK research organisation must have at least 1 year (instead of the usual 2 years) remaining at the time of the application;
• Once an applicant has been approved for funding from UKRI, the written confirmation can confirm the grant of funding for a minimum period of 1 year, instead of the usual period of 2 years; and
• Where an applicant already in the UK (in any category) can demonstrate that they will be based at a UK research organisation for the purpose of Coronavirus-related research and such research has funding via UKRI, they will be able to switch into the Global Talent route.

Besides the above changes, the Global Talent application will remain the same and the applicant will need to meet all of the remaining, usual requirements for entry clearance or leave to remain under the Immigration Rules.

Those applying may request a grant of leave for a period of up to 5 years and may be eligible for settlement in the UK after 3 years’ continuous residence in the UK as a Global Talent visa holder.
