A Chilean national who had been detained in Dubai whilst on a business trip recently contacted us. Our client had been travelling to Dubai from Qatar and on arrival was informed that there was a Red Notice issued in his name by a court in Jordan. Our client had been convicted in his absence and this was the first time he knew about the judgment.
The authorities in Dubai detained our client for several days before releasing him on strict bail conditions and confiscating his passport. Our client was then effectively trapped in Dubai as a result of the Red Notice.
We were instructed to make emergency representations to INTERPOL as to the validity of the Red Notice. Working alongside our client’s Jordanian lawyers we submitted an application to INTERPOL within 48 hours of being instructed and 7 days later secured the worldwide blocking of the Red Notice for our client thus removing the reason for his detention in Dubai.
Applications to INTERPOL in respect of Red Notices often take many months and sometimes even years to process but in this case we were able to secure interim measures at very short notice. Gherson has extensive experience in acting in such cases and has secured similar results on several occasions for other clients who instruct us internationally.
Should you wish to make an application to INTERPOL or if you require advice about making a challenge to a Red Notice please do not hesitate to contact us.
