The Nationality and Borders Bill – The greatest overhaul of the UK’s asylum system in a generation

Posted: 21 September 2021. The Nationality and Borders Bill is currently making its way through Parliament to become the most significant piece of legislation to be adopted on UK asylum law in many years. In this blog, we discuss the details of these proposals in the Bill, including the criteria to be used for the upcoming differential treatment of refugees, the Home Office’s efforts to reach agreement on deporting refugees to third safe countries following the UK’s departure from the EU, and whether the new legislation is to be arguably compatible with the UN 1951 Refugee Convention.
