Although the Turkish Businessperson and Turkish Worker visas are no longer being issued to new applicants, the Home Office has not set any deadline for the last acceptance of renewal and permanent residence applications under these categories. In this blog, we discuss the requirements for extending these visas or applying for indefinite leave to remain after residing in the UK for five years.

‘Red’ British passport holders – check the validity of your passport prior to travelling

Posted: 31 August 2021. Following the UK’s departure from the EU, the rules on validity of British passports for travelling to the EU have changed. As the newly issued British passports have turned blue in their design, there is still a sizeable number of ‘red’ British passports in use that were issued before Brexit. In this blog, we discuss the general guidance by HM Passport Office on passport validity, and the specific issues that the ‘red’ British passport holders should be bearing in mind in relation to the validity of their passport when travelling to the EU.

UK right to work check concessions extended until April 2022 – Employer’s Guide

Posted: 2 September 2021. Every employer has a duty to carry out Right to Work checks on their employees, ensuring compliance with the Home Office’s relevant code of practice on preventing illegal working. Following the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, concessions were introduced to allow manual Right to Work checks to be carried out remotely. This has now been extended until April 2022. In this blog, we discuss the procedure for performing the checks remotely, and a defence that an employer might have in the event they are found to be employing illegal workers despite having correctly conducted the necessary checks.
