Commonwealth citizens over the age of 17 who have at least one grandparent who was born in the UK can apply for a UK Ancestry visa.
Applicants must demonstrate that they are planning to work in the UK and that they have sufficient funds to maintain themselves and any dependants without recourse to public funds.
A UK Ancestry visa is issued for 5 years. At the end of this period, applicants can either apply to extend their visa, or, if they satisfy the requirements, apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain in the UK (otherwise known as Permanent Residence).
Applicants can apply to bring their dependent family members with them, but will need to demonstrate that they have sufficient funds to do so.
