Galiya Mustafina

Solicitor
Civil Litigation and Arbitration

Galiya is a dual-qualified lawyer in England and Wales and Kazakhstan. She joined Gherson’s Litigation and Arbitration team in October 2025. Her work focuses on complex cross-border disputes and international commercial and investor-state arbitration.

Her practice is built on a unique combination of over five years’ experience in private practice and public service within the Government of Kazakhstan, followed by more than five years representing sovereign states in international arbitration proceedings at a leading global law firm in London. This rare combination allows Galiya to offer her clients unparalleled insight into both the inner workings of state legal systems and the strategies of international arbitration.

Galiya possesses a strong track record in representing sovereign states and multinational clients in complex, high-value investment treaty and commercial arbitrations under ICSID, UNCITRAL and ICC rules. She has further contributed to World Bank-funded legal-reform projects, assisting a sovereign state in aligning its national laws with international standards. This background enables her to provide strategic counsel incorporating both highly nuanced international arbitration tactics and domestic regulatory frameworks.
