Human Rights Solicitor

Gherson Solicitors is currently seeking to recruit a Human Rights Solicitor of about 5 years PQE to join our Asylum and Human Rights team.

This team is instructed in some of the most complex and contentious, asylum and human rights applications, many of which are based on the ‘political opinion’ reason for persecution.

The ideal candidate will have a strong public law background and experience in some of the following:

  • Asylum applications
  • Judicial Reviews in both the Upper Tribunal and the Administrative Court
  • Complex nationality issues
  • International Protection and Human Rights
  • Extradition
  • Refugee Law

The candidate must have an excellent (and demonstrable) drafting ability as well as a true commitment to achieving the very best outcome in some of the most difficult circumstances.

IT Technician

Gherson Solicitors is currently seeking to recruit a proactive IT Technician, with an extensive working experience in a macOS environment.

The ideal candidate will be customer-focussed, with excellent communication and people skills, have a can- do attitude, able to priorities and manage their time effectively. We welcome enthusiasm and passion for Apple hardware and software.

Primary responsibilities will include:

  • Upgrading and maintaining user devices (macOS)
  • Application and software upgrades
  • Maintain Jamf Pro MDM
  • Working alongside the System Administrator to upgrade and maintain Linux servers
  • Supporting the business with 1st & 2nd line duties, including troubleshooting, setting up video conferencing, computers and printers
  • Creating complete new user accounts as well as setting up the equipment at the work stations

To successfully secure this role, you will also have the following key skills:

  • Experience in 1st & 2nd-line support of macOS & iOS devices
  • Experience in Jamf Pro
  • Experience in Linux
  • Knowledge of working with Firewalls, Switches, Hyper-V Failover Clustering, SQL Failover Clustering and Networking

Russian speaking solicitor or LPC graduate

We are currently recruiting for a newly qualified Russian-speaking immigration solicitor with good experience in a broad range of immigration law, in particular private client work. We would also consider applications from LPC graduates, who have the requisite experience of working in private client immigration and who are in a position to fulfil a training contract in due course. Over and above a thorough knowledge of current immigration law and the changes anticipated in 2021, excellent spoken and written English is essential. We are seeking Russia speaking paralegals to provide support and assistance in our Immigration firm

Ideally, we are looking for Russian-speaking candidates who have secured a law degree (or conversion) and have successfully completed the LPC, preferably with immigration elective. A passion for, and some knowledge of, immigration law is essential whereas knowledge of Home Office procedure will be taught if necessary.

We have an expectation that candidates will be:

  • Able to demonstrate excellent analytical and organisational skills;
  • Committed to teamwork;
  • Thorough in documenting their work;
  • Good communication skills;
  • IT literate;
  • Attentive to detail; and

Supervising Solicitor

Gherson Solicitors is currently seeking to recruit a Supervising Solicitor of about 3-5 years PQE and proven track record of people management to join our Immigration, Asylum and Human Rights team.

This team is instructed in some of the most complex and contentious, asylum and human rights applications, many of which are based on the ‘political opinion’ reason for persecution.

The ideal candidate will have a strong public law background, should be confident in managing and supervising a team of lawyers, and should be able to independently oversee the delivery of high-quality work and experience in the following;

  • Previous experience of supervision
  • Demonstrable experience of providing training and ongoing expert legal support to junior members of the team
  • Asylum applications
  • Judicial Reviews in both the Upper Tribunal and the Administrative Court
  • Complex nationality issues
  • International Protection and Human Rights
  • Extradition
  • Refugee Law

The candidate must:

  • Have an excellent (and demonstrable) drafting ability.
  • Have a true commitment to achieving the very best outcome in some of the most difficult circumstances.
  • Ensuring that own legal expertise is as up to date as possible in the relevant fields of law, including immigration, asylum and nationality law.
  • Experience managing the legal casework of others, including dealing with urgent work.
  • Ability to liaise and work effectively in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders.
