Asylum & Human Rights Solicitor

Gherson Solicitors is currently seeking to recruit an experienced Immigration, Asylum & Human Rights Solicitor to join our Complex Litigation team.

We are niche Immigration firm in Mayfair. In addition to our Private and Corporate Immigration work, we are also instructed on Complex Immigration matters and our Complex Litigation Team is a highly specialized team dealing with high profile politically motivate extradition, asylum and human rights cases.

We are looking to recruit a qualified solicitor with at least two years post qualified experience in immigration law.

The successful candidate must have direct personal, experience of:

  • Asylum applications
  • Human Rights applications in immigration law
  • Immigration applications outside the rules and discretionary applications
  • A broad range of immigration applications within the rules
  • Judicial Review applications and appeals
  • A strong background in Public Law

To successfully secure this role you will also have the following key skills:

  • An excellent knowledge of Immigration Law
  • Exceptional spoken and written English
  • An ability to manage your own caseload
  • Experience of dealing with or contribution to complex cases
  • Excellent drafting skills
  • A proactive approach to business development

  • Previous extradition experience is preferred but not necessary

Immigration paralegal 

We have a vacancy for an immigration paralegal to work directly with Roger Gherson.

This role would suit a candidate who has  some immigration law experience and is interested in human rights, asylum and extradition and would like to develop their legal career in these areas of law. To secure this role you will need to be utterly reliable, hardworking and quick to grasp and carry out instruction.  You will also need to have exceptional written and spoken English and very good attention to detail. 

Ideally you will need to have completed your LPC and be in a position to take up a training contract in due course.

Russian speaking solicitor or LPC graduate

We are currently recruiting for a newly qualified Russian speaking immigration solicitor with good experience in a broad range of immigration law, in particular private client work.  We would also consider applications from LPC graduates, who have the requisite experience of working in private client immigration and who are in a position to fulfil a training contract in due course.  Over and above a thorough knowledge of current immigration law and the changes anticipated in 2021, excellent spoken and written English is essential.  We strive to provide the best customer service we can at Gherson, and this position would suit a practitioner, with the same commitment to their clients.

We are seeking Russia speaking paralegals to provide support and assistance in our Immigration firm

Ideally we are looking for Russian speaking candidates who have secured a law degree (or conversion) and have successfully completed the LPC, preferably with immigration elective. A passion for, and some knowledge of, immigration law is essential whereas knowledge of Home Office procedure will be taught if necessary.

We have an expectation that candidates will be:

  • Able to demonstrate excellent analytical and organisational skills; 
  • Committed to teamwork; 
  • Thorough in documenting their work; 
  • Good communication skills; 
  • IT literate;

Primary responsibilities will include: 

  • Welcome clients warmly and professionally, and answer any questions clients have;
  • Corresponding and speaking with clients and third parties as required;
  • Maintaining up to date electronic files of all correspondence and other documents;
  • Obtaining and maintaining newspapers/magazines/kitchen supplies;
  • Keeping reception tidy and presentable;
  • Dealing with all issues relating to the telephone system;
  • Maintaining meeting rooms, reception area and kitchen in a tidy and organised manner;
  • Dealing with the post, suppliers and couriers on a daily basis;
  • Ad hoc duties as reasonably required;
  • Answering incoming calls, taking and passing on messages;
