As the UK immigration world is continuously evolving, with new immigration routes, new guidance and new rules being implemented regularly by the Home Office, it is essential to keep up-to-date with the latest immigration news and announcements. We aim to report on the majority of these changes via our blogs. We also often post overviews of the numerous immigration routes and discuss requirements within the different visa categories.

So what have we been talking about recently?

Home Office publishes updated good character policy guidance for EU Nationals wishing to naturalise as British Citizens

On 30 September 2020, the Home Office published new guidance in respect of EU nationals applying for British citizenship. When considering an application submitted by an EU national, the new guidance directs caseworkers to consider whether the EU national has been lawfully exercising Treaty Rights in the UK during the 10-year period before the application was submitted:

  • Previous guidance indicated that only the 5-year period before the application was submitted was relevant.
  • For some EU nationals and family members, this will mean showing they had Comprehensive Sickness Insurance or a European Health Insurance Card during the relevant period.

We look into this new guidance further here: https://www.gherson.com/blog/changes-to-good-character-requirements-for-eu-nationals, posted, 13 October 2020.
