Ukraine Permission Extension scheme: tips for a smooth application process

07 Feb 2025, 38 mins ago

Many have welcomed the news this week that the application process for the new Ukraine Permission Extension scheme has finally opened.

The new Ukraine Permission Extension scheme allows anyone living in the UK under the Ukraine Family Scheme, Ukraine Extension Scheme or Homes for Ukraine visa to continue their stay in the country for a further 18 months.

What is important to understand is that extensions are not granted automatically. Anyone wishing to continue living in the UK must submit a new application to the Home Office before their current visa expires. This requirement applies to everyone – the main applicant and their family members.

We understand that if the Ukraine Permission Extension scheme application is the first one you are submitting to the Home Office from the UK, you may find the visa application processes confusing. To help you navigate the process here are our top 5 tips for a smooth Ukraine Permission Extension scheme application process:

  1. Make sure that you have already set up your UKVI account, and that you can access your current eVisa. You can contact us if you need help with this process.
  2. Make sure that you are physically present in the UK when you submit your Ukraine Permission Extension scheme application.
  3. Make sure that you apply no earlier than 28 days before your current visa expires.
  4. Make sure that you complete the application form accurately to avoid processing delays, which will inevitably occur if the Home Office discover discrepancies in your application form or find out that they miss some important information from you.
  5. Most importantly – make sure that you do not travel abroad until your new Ukraine Permission Extension scheme visa has been granted!
