COVID Vaccine Eligibility

13 Apr 2021, 21 mins ago

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) have provided recommendations to the NHS on the groups that should be prioritised for vaccination.

The groups include those over the age of 50, those at the highest risk of contracting the disease, those most vulnerable to serious complications or dying from COVID-19 and carers of those most vulnerable. As more vaccines become available, these will be provided to the rest of the public. The COVID-19 vaccination is only available through the NHS and the NHS will be in contact with you when it is your turn to have the vaccine.

You must be registered with a GP surgery in England to receive the COVID-19 vaccination. Anyone in England can register with a GP surgery, regardless of immigration status. You do not need proof of address or immigration status, ID or an NHS number. It is up to the GP practice whether to accept new patients or not, but they can only refuse for non-discriminatory reasons.

If you are not currently registered, you can search for GPs in your area using the NHS service search. A list of GPs in your area will be provided for you to contact by telephone or email to enable you to request to be registered as a patient. If you are asked to complete a GMS1 registration form, you can download this from the GOV.UK website.

The NHS England Customer Contact Centre is also available on 0300 311 22 33 to help with any difficulties registering with a GP surgery. Follow us on Twitter to stay up-to-date.
